Susan White was presented with the George Hastings Memorial Award
At the 2009 PPANE convention, Susan White was presented with the “George Hastings Memorial Award” in recognition of her years of dedication to the craft of photography.
“It took me six years to get it!”, said Sue. “I printed all the images with my epson 2200 printer. I wanted to join the ranks of other photographers who have won it in the past, who look at photography not only as their profession but as their passion!”
The Hastings Awards is named after the very first President of Professional Photographers of New England, and is designed to test all the skills a photographer should have: proper composition, exposure, processing, printing (including print controls), retouching, mounting and finishing. In order to receive the award, the photographer submits prints for judging and accumulates points within a certain time period. When they’ve reached the required number of points, they are awarded a trophy.

The prints that were awarded were of Aurora Doughty, one of my favorite subjects ( little girl on swing) which was titled "The Reluctant Princess" The one of the dogs titled "The Odd couple" was from an absolutely hilarious photo shoot I did this past spring for realtor Melanie Anderson.
The dogs would do anything she asked them to do, including the little dog sitting in a baby carriage and the larger one standing on his hind legs behind it, with front paws up on the handlebars, pushing it! We made awesome Christmas cards of both images for her !
The photo on the right was taken in Florence , Italy and was recently displayed at the Duxbury Juried art show. And last but not least is the folio on the table of recent Silver Lake High School student Patrice O'Sullivan, titled "Blonde and Beautiful".
All prints received top, blue ribbon awards in a competition of photographers all over the state of Massachusetts.
Mark's portrait of an area guitarist was awarded a blue ribbon at the Professional Photographers of New England annual convention.
It was a blast speaking before fellow photographers of the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts. Bad weather caused a postponement of the original date. Better weather brought us a full house and some really fun times.
